Shuttle Frequently Asked Questions

If I can’t get a day-use parking pass can you shuttle me to a Katahdin Trailhead?

All hikers wishing to climb Katahdin are required to have a day-use parking reservation or a campsite reservation to be shuttled to a Katahdin Trailhead. Using a shuttle service does not bypass the need for a reservation.

Can I get a shuttle back to the Hostel from Baxter State Park after I climb Katahdin?

Only if you sign up for our afternoon shuttle in advance. It is very difficult to communicate from Baxter SP. There are no telephones in the park and limited cell phone signal at the summit. Your ascent/descent of Katahdin can take 8 - 12 hours. We recommend reserving a campsite at Katahdin Stream Campground for the day of your climb or making advanced plans with us.

The trail head I want to use at Baxter State Park is full - can you take me to Katahdin?

No. Baxter State Park requires a reservation for a Katahdin Trailhead to gain access and climb Katahdin. We can not bypass this requirement or take you to a full lot. Please visit the Baxter State Park website for parking and camping information.

Can you shuttle my vehicle somewhere for me?

No, due to liability concerns we do not move vehicles for you. What we recommend is you leave your car at the end point of your hike. We can shuttle you to the beginning of your section and you can hike back to your vehicle. Or you can leave your vehicle in the public lot near our Hostel and we can shuttle you at the beginning and end of your hike. It would cost the same either way, and your vehicle may be safer in town than at a trailhead.

Can I leave my vehicle overnight at Abol Bridge and hike to it?

Yes, it is generally safe to park your vehicle near Abol Bridge, and we can shuttle you to several locations from which you can hike back to your vehicle. AT Hostel & Outfitters takes no responsibility for vehicles parked at Abol Bridge.

Can you shuttle me from Abol Bridge to Millinocket?

Yes. You must first sign up for our daily shuttle into town. There is no cell phone signal at the Bridge, but you can usually get signal on the high ground on the AT roughly six miles south of Abol Bridge, also known as Rainbow Ledges. The Abol Bridge Camp Store no longer has a satellite phone that you can pay to use.

Can you shuttle me if I have a dog with me?

Yes, but no pets are allowed in the Hostel or in Baxter State Park. We can also shuttle your dog from Katahdin Kritters Pet Resort to Abol Bridge to reunite you for your trip, after you exit Baxter SP.
